A place, not a venue

Some land you visit. Some land you arrive at and immediately breathe differently. Kayanara is the second kind.

It sits at Eagle Creek in the South Cariboo, roughly north of Vernon and a world away from it. Two hundred and twenty acres of farm and forest, bordered by the creek it is named for, near Canim Lake. The people who run it grow food there, keep animals there, and describe their work as tending the land in a conscious way.

That matters more than any amenity list. A retreat takes on the character of the ground it happens on, and ground that is genuinely cared for gives something back to the people standing on it.

Why country like this suits the work

Most of what Pam does asks your nervous system to stop bracing. That is difficult in a city, in a hotel, or anywhere within earshot of a highway.

Out here there is no cell tower hum, no schedule but daylight, and nothing to perform for. The distance itself begins the work before a single session does.

Kayanara is run by Jenna, Brent, Don, and Tracey. They grow the food, keep the animals, and look after the ground the retreats happen on. It is their work that makes the place feel the way it does.
